Prostate Cancer survival rates for Asian American Men
----------------------------------------------------------------
In a prostate cancer survival rate study lead by Anthony
S. Robbins (MD, PhD), men of far east asian descent did
better than non hispanic white men while men of south
asian descent did worst. Robbins' group reviewed data
from the California Cancer Registry found that asian
american men were often diagnosed a later stage of
cancer and were more likely to use alternative treatments.
Dr Robbin's research group identified and analyzed the
prognostic factors and survival rates of 116,916 men
- whites and 8840 Asian Men - all whom were
diagnosed with prostate cancer from 1995 to 2004.
Previous prostrate cancer mortality/survival rate
research suggest that Asian-American men as an
aggregate ethnic group have the lowest incidence of
and lower mortality rate of prostate cancer but earlier
study had included south asian men when considering
Asian American men. Robbins' study is the first to
include South Asian descent men ( Indians,
Pakistanis, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, etc) into a study
examining prostate cancer survival rates.
